Q. I was involved in an automobile accident and wonder what attorneys such as yourself say should be done.
A. Our Associate, attorney Jennifer Cooley, handles personal injury matters. She says that the first thing you have to do is STOP! Florida law requires that you stop. Do NOT leave the scene of the accident until an officer arrives and says it is okay for you to leave, unless, of course, you are injured and are being transported to a hospital in an ambulance. Tell the officer YOUR side of the story and don’t deliberately leave out anything. Do not discuss the accident with passers-by or with anyone other than the investigating officer. Call your insurance company and provide a description of the accident. If there’s been an injury, it’s wisest not to give statements to your insurance company until you’ve discussed the matter with your attorney.
